Board of Directors Election

The Nominating Committee is seeking qualified members interested in serving as volunteers on the credit union’s Board of Directors. Three positions will be open for the 2023 Board of Directors Election.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has knowledge, experience, and understanding of governance, leadership, and the business cycle of a large organization; can understand financial statements; thinks strategically; and can work with a dynamic and successful management team and fellow volunteers. In addition, the candidate should have the ability to relate to various personalities and possess a drive towards results for the common good of the organization and its members. Previous experience serving on other boards of directors is desirable. Applicants must be able to attend the monthly meetings virtually or in person at the new headquarters office in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Supervisory Committee

The Board of Directors is seeking to appoint two qualified members to become part of the credit union’s Supervisory Committee. This committee oversees Arkansas Federal’s processes for managing risk, the integrity of financial reporting, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. In addition, this committee engages in contracting outside audit firms, quality assures delivered reports, presents these reports to the Board, and deals with members’ complaints.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should know and understand the auditing process. In addition, the candidate should be able to work with the Board of Directors and the management team with a drive towards achieving the common good of the organization and its members. Experience in these functions is desired: auditing, accounting, finance, information technology, leadership or management. Applicants must be able to attend the quarterly meetings (and others called by the Chair, Supervisory Committee) virtually or in person at the new headquarters office in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Associate Volunteer Members (AVM)

Arkansas Federal is looking to fill up to three Associate Volunteer Member (AVM) positions for a one-year renewable term, at the will of the Board. AVMs, like full Volunteer Members, have the same duties and responsibilities with the exception of voting rights. Associate Volunteer Members are part of Arkansas Federal’s succession plan allowing individuals to gain in-depth knowledge of the credit union and the business of financial services to prepare for a position as a voting member of the Board of Directors. There is no guarantee that the AVM will serve on the Board. There is a guarantee to provide the training, guidance, and support needed to be a high performing Board member.

As an Associate Volunteer Member, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in meetings and activities to learn how the Volunteers function in providing guidance and counsel to Arkansas Federal management. The purpose of all Volunteers is, on behalf of the membership, to assure that Arkansas Federal reaches its agreed upon goals in the best interest of its membership.

AVM Onboarding

The AVM will have access to an orientation and training program before attending their first Board meeting. A Board Mentor will be assigned to each AVM, and he or she will conduct check-in briefings for the first three Board meetings the AVM attends to review the Board packet, proceedings of the Board, and general board discussions.
